Setting Triangles for Quilts On Point from Patchwork Sampler Blog

The Dilemma

In a nutshell, it has become increasingly common to see patterns that simply cut a block in half to create a setting triangle. Personally, I have come across this three times in the last couple of weeks. The first was when I made the Nyalik quilt. The corners really bother me because the corner blocks were just cut off when squaring up the quilt.

Side Triangle and Corner Triangle Cutting Cart from Quiltnotes All Blogs


Quilters use this triangle cutting chart when piecing a diagonal layout quilt. In a diagonal layout, blocks are placed on-point. The blocks are shown in white above. The corner triangles, shown in black, are in the corners. Side triangles, shown in gray, are along the edges.

A Quilt for Eva from Sew Preeti Quilts

I met Eva for the first time about two years ago.  She is married to Bill who started out as a co-worker but ended up being a friend.  Since his retirement, they live in New Jersey.

On the Design Wall

Eva and I connected over our love of spicy food and gold jewelry.  When I showed her the first of the International Sister Quilt Blocks, her response was immediate. She loved them.
